The AC Experience

This past weekend, the hubs and I escaped from our shitastic lives kids and responsibilities home to go up to Atlantic City, New Jersey for a few days, ostensibly as an extended birthday celebration.  We ran away from the city on Thursday evening, and drove directly to the sparkly shininess that is AC.  Once we arrived and checked into our room, we discovered that somehow, despite our status as the most unhigh rollerest people ever, we were given a suite.

I mean, seriously.  It had a living room/dining room, a bedroom and a huge bathroom with soaking tub and TV in the bathroom.  The suite had 3 TVs in total.  We don’t have that many TVs in our entire house!

Once we got over the shock of our amazing high roller room, we went downstairs to find a restaurant so that we could get some grub . . . and some drinks.  I was on vacation, bitches!!

The next day, I learned a new game . . . 3 card poker.  Anyone ever play this before?  It’s like regular poker, but with only 3 cards.  I mean, there’s more to it, but that’s the basic gist.  It’s a table game, which is something I usually avoid (interacting with other people?  Um, pass), but the hubs sat me down and said he’d teach me.  And it was quite easy to learn, since I know the basics of poker and this was just a bit different.  The toughest part for me was getting the betting part, but they were really nice and understanding of my foibles.  The good news is that I went back later in the day to play all by myself (yep, I had my big girl pants on and everything!), and I did this:

That right there?  Straight flush.  I walked away with $200 for that little hand.  Of course, I then went ahead and gave that all back to the casino in their slots, but it was a nice feeling while it lasted.

You’re probably wondering to yourself, “Self . . . where are all the pictures of crazily dressed people we have come to expect from our dear Misty on this here site?”  And to that I answer, um . . . yeah, I was kinda busy with all the losing of the monies (except for that instance above, of course) to really pay too much attention to those around me.  Plus, I just wasn’t feeling it this time.

This one gets points for cleverness.  Always gotta appreciate the clever . . .

And thus ends the tale of my not particularly exciting weekend.  It was nice to get away for a few days, but we didn’t win anything, I slept like crap on the super hard bed (I don’t usually have any problem sleeping!), and the hubs and I may have gotten into a few disagreements during the trip.  So yeah, not the best weekend, but still.  No kids, so that’s a win, right?

Addendum:

My secretary, hearing I would be in New Jersey for the weekend, was curious as to whether we would see any of the devastation from Hurricane Sandy that hit there recently.  She asked me to take some pictures if I saw anything.  Well, seeing as I didn’t leave the hotel at all while I was there, I didn’t see much of anything except the inside of the casino.  I mentioned this to the hubs as we were driving away, and he told me, “well, if she wants to see devastation, you can show her this:”

When I texted the picture to her, saying, “a picture of the devastation wrought upon people in Jersey . . . ” Her response was:  “Jersey appreciates your support.”  I love being surrounded by rad peeps.

Oh that is just the perfect ending. And holy sweet suite! I probably wouldn’t have left the room, and you went out there and INTERACTED with PEOPLE? (Oh gawd. I’m so with you. This is why I drink and blog.)

I know!! I really didn’t WANT to leave, but I felt it was necessary. Being in a casino and having the hubs hand me cash and all. I probably should have just said, “thanks!” and put it in my wallet, then took a nice long bath. Oh well, hindsight.

I would have stayed in the bathtub all weekend watching TV! Looks like a good time, Misty!

    NICE suite! I’m jealous.
The empty wallet is definitely a devastation though. =/

You would love it here in Reno. We have a couple of nicer casinos but there are plenty of trashy ones with tons of people to photograph wearing/doing all kinds of weirdness (daily … no shortage of weird, EVER). And, the devastation is pretty normal as well. No hurricanes, just random devastation … like trailer parks, abandoned/foreclosed homes, homeless vagabonds, empty wallets, etc. Wow. I’m really selling Reno as a highlight here, aren’t I? Uh, the truth hurts. 🙂 OK-OK, it is fun to go to a casino every now and then. And, drinks are FREE! You might like pai gow poker. Kinda the same as 3-card but, if you are doing really well, you can play “the bank” at the table and feel like a big whig. And, just to not totally bag on Nevada for a moment, there are lots of other good things outside of the casinos …

I’ve actually been to Reno. Only once for a short evening, and there was devastation in the wallet there as well. 😉 I remember it being sort of . . . seedy and dirty. Sorry.

I’ve never played Pai Gow. There are a bunch of table games with odd names that I usually just walk right by. I have a healthy fear of looking stupid in public, and if I’ve never even heard of the game, I’m not gonna try without some major help (like the hubs’ tutorial).

One day, I plan to get out to Tahoe again, and I just might have to visit Reno again. 😉

I am drooling over that bathroom, except is that a frosted glass wall between it and the bedroom? TMI as far as I’m concerned.

Loved the pictures, but I don’t think those clothes were at all inappropriate. In fact, I think those “working” girls were in uniform.

Yeah, I was NOT a fan of the shower placement. Nobody needs to see me scrubbing my dirty bits. I’m not some nubile super model that makes showering look sexy. Too much to share, indeed.

You might be right about the working girls. It was a Saturday night. 😉

Nice suite! I have to say I’m pretty impressed how fast AC was back up and running after we got slammed. We needed it too. I am so jealous of your ability to sneak these ninja snaps. I saw one yesterday and just couldn’t get lined up to snap and send it to you. It was an older lady sitting on a pylon in front of the Time Warner shopping building across from Central Park and she was wearing a deep green hair coat. Think dyed wooly mammoth. Think punk Flintstones. Think about teaching a class so I can send you pictures.

Yeah, I remember the pictures of the flooded streets. Then again, there is quite a bit of money and initiative to get it all running again. Closed casinos can’t make any cash!

She sounds like a vision. You just have to work on your stealth. Pretend you just got an urgent message on your phone, stop in your tracks, look at it with consternation, and then tilt it up slightly, just enough to get the subject in the frame and snap snap snap. It’s always easier when you are behind them as well, because you can pretty much just raise it and click. The key is looking and acting like what you are doing is totally normal, getting it done, and then pretty much just walking (never run, that indicates guilt!) away quickly. Piece of cake!! Or pie. 🙂

I think I would have bought a book and not left the room…or I suppose there might have been something on tv…I might not have left the bathroom! p.s. the ninjas know you’re back now!

      Yay for ninjas!!

Yeah, I had a book and took one bath and read a bit, but I could have spent the entire weekend in the bathroom, really. Probably should have, with how my luck was in the casino.

Well, at least the suite was nice?

I worked in the gaming industry, and while I was never a big casino person before, I really can’t deal with them now. The house always wins girl, next time take your two hundy and run!

Lovely room, you must have told them it was your birthday trip…right?

Those were working girls on the stroll, had to be. Or maybe Snookie wannabe’s.

Nice hand, should stayed at the table! No slots, slots are rigged.

Maybe the hubs did, who knows. But we’ve never been treated like that before, and we are usually up there for some type of celebratory event. I think the recession is just hitting them hard, and they are practically empty, so why not?

I know, I should have, but I was steadily losing at that point and didn’t want to give it all back. I’ve won before on slots. You just have to hit the right machine at the right time. It’s all about luck.
