I Mustache You a Question . . .

. . . but I’ll shave it for later.

Recently I’ve noticed an all encompassing phenomenon that seems to have swept the nation. Not since bell bottoms were all the rage at Studio 54 has this trend been so societally accepted and even desirable. Wherever I turn, it seems that I am confronted with another example of how wonderful and sexy these examples of manliness and stud muffiness are. Although, it would seem that the last time these bushy beauties were so popular, they were represented on a certain TV detective from Hawaii.

I am of course talking about the glorious and regal . . . mustache.

The mustache is everywhere nowadays. It’s resurgence has come as somewhat of a surprise to me, because although it seems to be all the rage in websites and novelty items, not to mention iPhone cases, T-shirts and mugs . . .

.

.

. . . I have yet to see this resurgence become evident on real life mens’ faces. (Except for gay porn, Freddie Mercury look-alike contests, or the occasional ironic hipster mustache). The goatee seems to still be the facial blanket of choice, along with the always classic full beard. But the mustache has not been evident as a current choice in manly lip fuzz since the 70’s and 80’s.

Alright, alright!

So I guess my question is this . . . what is up with all the mustache love?

Recently I came across a website called steeshes.com, which is all about men and their mustaches. It was a recommended blog on WordPress, so one of the powers that be must also have an appreciation for these fuzzy lip warmers as well.

Not only that, but my good friend Jules, of Go Jules Go, is absolutely enthralled by all things mustachio. Her profile pic is of her in a mustache, she talks about mustaches constantly, and she even had a recent contest featuring mustaches. Not that I don’t love her dearly, but what is up with all this mustache adoration, hmm?

So, not wanting to fall behind on this new trend, I’m thinking I’m going to have to jump on this bandwagon before I’m the last loser to get how awesome this stache-loving society actually is. Based on this now newfound love of all things mustache, I feel it is my duty to share this love with all of you.

Remember how I mentioned novelty items? It seems like every store I have visited lately had some sort of mustache themed item. Well, with this awakening of my new mustachio adoration, I finally decided to purchase one of those items. And I will share that item with you.

That’s right, it’s giveaway time again, bitches!! This here is the magical mustache merchandise:

Dare to wear facial hair!

It is all yours for the low low price of . . . oh, wait. I said giveaway, didn’t I? Ok, fine. This is what you have to do to win this glorious item: Tell me who your favorite mustached man is and the reason that he is your favorite.

I will once again have one of my chilluns pick a name from all of the submissions. I might even make them wear a mustache. Not sure if that will qualify as child abuse or not, so once I do a little research on the case law, I will make a legal determination on that.

So for now, I will bid you all adieu. You have your directive and know what you must do.

I love to win things, but frankly, I just don’t get the mustache phenomenon.

The stash tastic revolution is a mysterious one! I admit to buying a few items for my cousin’s wife as the cuz has succumbed to the facial hair crusade the cookies cutters (and cookies that followed) were one of my faves! Their baby even got crochet booties with stashes on them!

J’adore the goatee… I do, I do. Without one my husband looks like Homer Simpson and it’s a little frightening.

Favorite mustachio’d hombre? You have him featured at the top of your page… Le Selleck. Omg. I mean, omg. The man has been sexy since the day he was born and he will be sexy until the day he dies.

Hitler’s stache comes in at a close second because it is now a yardstick by which to measure sociopaths and assholes. He took that ridiculous mustache and made it tabu, thank you Jesus. If you see a man who dares to sport the Nazi stache. you know that goose-stepping is next on his agenda, so it’s a good idea to drop him where he stands.

The hubs grows a goatee when he goes on vacation. For some reason, he doesn’t think it’s very professional, so he only does it when he knows he is going to be off work for a week or so. I think he looks quite good with it. He looks odd when he shaves it, because I get used to the look so quickly.

Selleck is the epitome of mustachioed hotness, I will agree.

These are great dating tips you have here, Dani. Ever thought of writing an advice column with these gems? 😉

Oh Misty, I won’t tell you I like to read Shades of Gray in my ‘stache glasses, then, LOL 😉 I’m with you in that it’s odd actual mustaches haven’t made a comeback, but I think that’s because the world at large recognizes how innately hilarious they are. I think it’s just that simple – they look ridiculous!

I LOVE those notable ‘staches. I gave them to Byronic Man as part of his runners-up prize in the guilty pleasure gift basket giveaway.

My favorite mustachioed man is not famous – he’s the guy in my hot air ballooning post with the GIANT, gray, handlebar mustache. It was even more amazing than the hot air balloon ride. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Oh man, I figured you of all people would be ALL OVER THIS!! I should have figured you already had these. Boo.

Do you forfeit if I pick your name, then?

I remember that hot air balloon man!!! That was a most epic mustache, indeed. Good pick.

Hercule Poirot, the fictional Belgian detective! Not that I love mustaches, but he is amazing, and so fastidious as to be comical. Definitely Poirot.

I saw a mirror in a catalog that you hang lengthwise, and it has three mustaches on it, so you can see your face with 3 different ‘stache looks. Never bought it. If I win, the prize is going to the daughter of my Internet Fiance, because she is into this trend. Do I win? Do I win?

I have never heard of Poirot! Now I feel very unworldly and uneducated. Boo!

I love that mirror!! That is so awesome. And IF you win (hold your horses, girlfriend . . . I haven’t picked yet), then you can give it to Brett’s daughter. What a nice internet fiance you are! 😉

Well, I think the stache is back because of Movember. Each november men grow a mo to support the cure for prostate cancer. I think I’ll join this year around. My favorite guy with a mo? (Aside from any number of gay porn actors, mind you) is Salvador Dali. Now there was a man that knew how to wear it!

I did think about Movember. I know quite a few people who participated. But mostly they did silly fu man chu/handlebar type things, just to be funny.

Ha! So surprised you focused in on the gay porn part of that post . . .

Dali is a very interesting choice! I like it. 🙂

AAAAAAAA I must have this. I think the ‘stache craze is hysterical. And my Mom does too (yes we are both grown ups we just don’t act like it). Add wine and it is an instant party.

I can provide the staches. You have to provide your own wine. Oh, and if you want to invite me over for some, I will be fine with that.

      Good luck!! 😉

Well, my dad was one of the original ‘stache wearers — he looked damn good with it, too. When he shaved it off once, my stepmom walked right past him into the house because she didn’t recognize him. She thought he was the gardener. So….I like ‘staches but not on people I make out with because of the whole daddy issues thing. YOU KNOW.

I think people are still waiting for the 70s aroma to wear off before starting another mustache craze.

I think 2020 will be the big mustache resurgence time. Count on it.

Ha! Daddy issues. I have seen that when someone who has always had a stache or beard or something and shaves it, looks like a completely different person. She thought he was the gardner! Snort. 🙂

I do not like a stache by itself. However! I’m completely down with a stache/goatee or fumanchu thing. As evidenced by my forcing my husband to wear one.

The mustache thing is a huge hipster phenomenon which fills my soul with unbridled hatred, but I still get hot over Tom Selleck. . .not just because he’s a Republican. . .but that helps.

Tom Selleck, for sure! He is sexy as hell. On Magnum P.I., when he would turn around and raise his eyebrows at the camera…*sigh* Yum. Please excuse me while I go cool off…

Ok…so for me it has to be Tom Selleck when he was Monica’s boyfriend on Friends. I was creepily in love with him. Although if Colin Firth or Justin Timberlake ever grow a mustache (besides the one JT had on SNL in the skits he did with Andy Samberg) then I would probably choose one of them instead.

Yes, the older distinguished Selleck. Definitely still sexy!

I think they have both had mustaches at one time, for different parts. I think the goofy mustaches on SNL don’t count because they are meant to be comedic and pornish!

How could anyone love a mustache more that the one on Magnum PI’s face?!?! I mean, he made up for it’s large size with tiny shorts.

    Yea, I said it. ;o)

At the risk of sounding repetitive, Mr Selleck is right up there looking fine and dandy – it’s hard to imagine another who carries the mustache so well. Hubby shaved his beard and ‘tache off just yesterday, otherwise he would have been my man.

Funny! I wrote a post about the stache not long ago. I am not a fan. The only man to successfully make it sexy is Tom Selleck.

And maybe Guy Pearce – hawt!

Indeed I am with you on this gurl… I do not get this craze. My 14 year old daughter has a “mustache” bracelet that she insists on wearing everywhere. Really? Between that and the new gal at work that dresses like she’s on Magnum PI, I’m having serious Tom Selleck flashbacks. Which isn’t so bad, if only we were focused on HIM and not this other stuff ;0)

A friend of mine was trying to raise money for their kid’s school… by wearing a fake mustache to work every day for a week, without being able to explain what was going on. There was picture proof and a daily blog post to go along with it. BEST FUNDRAISER EVER!
